Happy St. Paddy's Day - An Ode to Snacks!

'Twas the night of St. Paddy’s, when all through the pub

Stomachs were growling, and craving some grub;

The green beers were guzzled by many with care,

A strange stateside tradition that’s only done there;

The children were nestled all snug at uncle Ted’s;

While visions of leprechauns danced in their heads;

And mamma in her t-shirt, and I in my hat,

Emblazoned ‘Kiss me, I’m Irish!’ across both front and back,

We emerged from the pub and I caused such a clatter,

“I need snacks now!” (Do you see what was the matter?)

Away to a taxi we flew like a flash,

Rode home in anticipation, tipped the driver with cash.

A package was waiting just past our sidewalk,

And we rushed to our door and opened the lock.

When we opened the box – what did appear?

Double Take Salsa – even better than beer!

I pranced to the kitchen so lively and quick,

“I’ll make nachos!” I cried, “which salsa to pick?”

In a box sent by Amazon, these salsas they came,

I whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

"Now, Verde! El Jefe! And Aces and Eights!

Machismo! On nachos! This has to be fate!

To the drawer of the fridge! We need cheese for it all!

Now grate away! Grate away! Grate away all!"

Into to the oven, my corn chips they flew

With a large amount of cheese, and jalapeños too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard that magical sound,

The timer was done! It was Double Take time – no messing around!

We sat down with our nachos, my wife and I,

Opened every salsa, so happy we could cry.

It was then that we knew we had nothing to dread;

Double Take to the rescue, our stomachs had been fed,

And giving a nod, to the recycling we rose;

Our jars were all empty, clean as a whistle,

And in they all flew like the down of a thistle.

And I turned to my wife, not a hunger pang in sight—

“Happy St. Paddy’s to all, and to all a good night!”
